You know you've got a special plant in your garden when practically every neighbor stops by to ask you what it is and where you got it. The plant that is causing the commotion in my garden is blue wheat grass (Elymus magellanicus).
The color of this compact, 16-inch-tall by 20-inch-wide grass is best described as a cross between the sky and the sea. It's such a brilliant blue that other grasses described as blue are quite blasé in comparison. This sun lover from Chile is quite hardy but resents wet feet in winter, and therefore must have good drainage to survive.
