Nominations sought for Tri-State's Star Students
— Nominations are now being accepted for the Evansville Courier & Press Star Students program, which honors some of the Tri-State's top high school juniors.The program, which is in its second year, shines a spotlight on students who excel in the classroom and other school activities while also volunteering time in their communities.
Nominations are accepted for high school juniors from public and nonpublic schools across Southwestern Indiana, Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois. All nominations must be made online at courierpress.com/starstudent/nomination.
Once a student is nominated, that student will be asked to fill out an application and to provide a short essay and three reference letters — one from a relative, one from the student's school and one from a community member.
Judging is based on the following criteria: 30 percent on academic performance; 25 percent on school activities; 25 percent on community activities; 10 percent on paid employment; and 10 percent on the student's essay, reference letters and any unique circumstances.
Nominations are scheduled to close on Feb. 12. There will be 90 winners, including 20 gold, 30 silver and 40 bronze.
Winners will be named this spring, and all will be profiled in a special section of the Courier & Press.
