End summer with free outdoor entertainment
The days are growing shorter, summer has sped by, and where did it go anyway? If you haven’t listened to music under a twilight sky or seen a movie under the stars, you have only another week or two to put theses rites of summer on your agenda. They’re all free and in locations worth visiting even without the entertainment. Have drinks or dinner, browse the shops, visit a museum or stroll along the water, and you’re likely to remember the evening long after the fun has moved indoors.
Sounds of summer
Harborwalk Sounds, 6-8:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 8, Institute of Contemporary Art, 100 Northern Ave., Boston – Both the ICA and the concerts are free Thursday nights. Musicians perform with the harbor at their back, stadium seating in front and an outdoor cafe to their side. Jazz saxophonist Grace Kelly, 19, who has played with Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick Jr., was named Outstanding Jazz Act in the Boston Music Awards and performs August 25. Bluegrass fiddler Sierra Hull, 19, who has played at the Grand Ol Opry and won the admiration of Dolly Parton and Alison Krauss, performs with her band, Highway 11, Sept. 1.
