Uncle Floyd and John Dull to play at second annual Wetlands Preservation Concert

For the second year in a row the Pete and Toshi Seeger Wetlands Preservation Conservation Concert Series is coming to Rutherford . Featuring such acts as Uncle Floyd, John Dull and the Dull Music Band, Bethany & Rufus and RJ Storm & Old School, the concert aims both to entertain and to raise awareness about the preservation of the Meadowlands.

Dull said the concert will have a more intimate feel because it's in a small venue, being held at the Rutherford Congregational Church instead of last year's, which was held at the Williams Center. Nevertheless, there will still be booths representing local environmental organizations such as the Hackensack Riverkeeper and the Rutherford Green Team, both of which are among the groups sponsoring the event.

"It's to get people proactively involved with protection of the Meadowlands," said Dull. "One of the ideas is just to get people to take a walk through DeKorte Park or go on a pontoon boat ride [with the Hackensack Riverkeeper]… There are a lot of hungry eyes on that land and there have been a lot of moves in the wrong direction in protecting it. The Meadowlands could be a fantastic park and an environmental example to the whole world because it's right at the foot of New York City."

Headlining the show is Uncle Floyd Vivino, comedian, musician, New Jersey legend and longtime host of "The Uncle Floyd Show," New Jersey's longest-running cable TV show. Uncle Floyd is known for his vaudeville-style comedy and piano-playing.

"I've known John Dull for over 30 years. Whenever he gets involved with something, I stand by him," Vivino said. Asked how he became interested in the cause of nature preservation, Vivino asked how he couldn't be.

"I was concerned since I was a baby. You like to breathe, do not you?" he said. Vivino recalls the care of his family put in their garden plot when he grew up in Paterson. It is watched over the years as all the old farms have disappeared Wayne one by one. "I was taught to take care of the earth ... There is a reason for every piece of dirt, there is a reason for each insect, there is a reason for us!
