Easter Seals gearing up for street hockey tourney
On Sunday, September 18, 2011, 10:00 to 6:00 p.m., the parking lot of East Side Mario on Lakeshore Drive will turn into a street hockey stadium for the ninth annual power play for the children of Easter Seals presented by Pembridge Insurance . This fundraising event features players of street hockey with local businesses and corporate teams that raise funds and compete in support of children in the community with a physical disability.
The day is filled with excitement for players and spectators.Some of the highlights of the event include "price of fair play" of the new, the "Spirit Award" for the best team on the subject of costumes, a silent auction, face painting, fishing pond, and several other activities fun. In addition, the team of fundraising at the top tournament winners will receive their pictures in the newspaper of the community. To qualify, each team must raise a minimum of $ 600 in pledges.
"There are so many reasons to organize a team of Power Play," said Roxanne Kneer, development officer with the Easter Seals Ontario. "This is a great way for companies to build team spirit and morale while at the same time helping children with physical disabilities. It truly is a win-win event!"
Money raised goes towards funding essential equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, and communication devices, providing summer camping experiences at Easter Seals camps, and funding Recreational Choices such as day camps, swimming and art classes. Since 1999, Power Play has raised over $2 million for Easter Seals kids.
Easter Seals Ontario was founded in 1922 with a vision to create a better life for children and youth with physical disabilities. Since then, Easter Seals has been providing financial assistance for essential mobility equipment and communication devices, such as walkers, wheelchairs, porch lifts and ramps to families who require additional help and support in raising a child with a physical disability.
